Plainchant setting
The recording below is based on the Sarum Psalm tones as presented in the St. Dunstan’s Plainsong Psalter. It is chanted to Tone VII 1.
Anglican chant setting by Edward Dearle (1806-1891)
As a boy, Edward Dearle was a chorister at King’s College, Cambridge. He grew up to become a composer and organist. Among his compositions is the hymn tune PENITENTIA, to which we sing the Communion hymn, “Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face.”
One of his chants is heard in this singing of Psalm 79 by the Choir of Lincoln Cathedral, directed by Aric Prentice, with organist Charles Harrison.
